“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” – Gen. 1:26

The man is God’s masterpiece, formed and shaped to be a unique replica of Himself. Man was made to be like God, in His image and likeness, to be a reflection of His ways, to be His copy. Man was also designed to rule, reign and have dominion (supreme authority or sovereignty) over all that God had given or provided for him.
I think David took great pride in talking about man when he said, “…marvelous are thy works.” Psalm 139:14 A man is God’s marvelous work. Man has such great power and strength. After all, he does have the very essence, the life of God flowing through him.
Gen 2:7-17; Gen 2:19 details the creation as well as the role of man.
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
“And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.”
Man was originally created to look to the Lord as his source of all things. The Lord provided man’s dwelling place, his shelter. The Lord also provided food, water, and an abundance of wealth. Man’s first lessons from the Lord were how to create and provide. The man also had to work in order to take care of and tend to what God had given him.
Man has to answer to the Lord, following His commands. He is to be obedient to the Lord. God is to be viewed and honored as his Head. He is named by God and his very power emanates from his connection with his Lord. In Gen. 2:19, man is given another role and that is to be the decision maker.
“And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.”
I believe every man is brought into this world with these innate qualities spiritually engrafted into his DNA. He has to just grow up into it, walk it, live it, allowing the Lord to shape and mold him day by day.
“Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.” Isaiah 43:7
It is of great importance that the man remember from whence he came and whose he is. Recognizing and acknowledging the Lord as his head, will allow him to hear from Him, keeping in constant communication with Him. This will allow him to operate daily with a God conscious mind. For as it says in the book of Jeremiah,
“…the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.” Jeremiah 10:23
